Saints earn program's first trip to NCCAA DII national tournament

The Central Christian College of the Bible men's basketball team will be making their first appearance at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Division II national tournament after receiving an at-large bid, announced Monday by the NCCAA.

The Saints, who are 19-12 on the season following a 94-80 loss to second-ranked Manhattan Christian College (Kan.) in the Central Region championship, were awarded the No. 9 seed in the 10-team field. They will face No. 8 seed Johnson University-Tennessee at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9, at Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny, Iowa.

Central Christian was one of four teams to receive at-large selection. The other six teams are region championship winners from six regions across the United States and Canada.

Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College (Okla.) earned the top seed, followed by Manhattan Christian at No. 2, Grace Bible College (Mich.) at No. 3, North Central University (Minn.) at No. 4 and Arlington Baptist College (Texas) rounding out the top five.

The University of Valley Forge (Pa.) was awarded the No. 6 seed, followed by Pensacola Chrisitian College at No. 7. The tournament host, Faith Baptist Bible, received the No. 10 seed.

The Division II men’s basketball Christian Service Project will be working with Kingdom Cares to provide socks, shoes, and a meal for underprivileged children in the Des Moines area on Wednesday, March 9, in addition to a free basketball clinic. Championship action will begin on Wednesday, March 9, with quarterfinals on Thursday, March 10. Semifinals will then be played on Friday, March 11, and the championship game on Saturday, March 12.
